Terms of use

Last updated 17 October 2026

These terms are between you and Bobby Band, who makes ikhaya in South Africa. By using ikhaya you agree to them.

Who can use it

A grown-up of 18 or older sets up a family and is responsible for it. Only a parent or guardian may add a child, and by adding one you confirm you are theirs. Kids use ikhaya through the family a grown-up set up.

What ikhaya is

An app to run household jobs, a shopping list, screen time and family messages as a family game. The coins, levels and shop items have no money value and can’t be bought, sold or swapped for anything outside ikhaya.

Subscriptions

ikhaya costs R49.99 a month or R499.99 a year for the whole family, after a free month. Prices include VAT and can change; if they do, Apple asks you first. Payment is taken from your Apple ID when the free month ends and the subscription renews by itself unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the month or year. Cancel or change your plan any time in your iPhone’s Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple. Families who joined before subscriptions started keep ikhaya free.

Apple’s standard licence for apps (apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula) also applies.

Screen time

ikhaya sets limits through Apple’s Screen Time. It helps, but it’s not a guarantee: a phone can be offline, Apple can change how it works, and a determined kid may find a way round. You stay responsible for your kids’ device use.

Using it fairly

Be kind in the family chat. Don’t use ikhaya to harm anyone, don’t put other people’s personal details in it without their OK, and don’t try to get into other families’ data or break the service.

The service

We work hard to keep ikhaya running and your data safe, but it’s offered as it is, without promises that it will always be available or free of mistakes. As far as South African law allows, we aren’t liable for losses from using it or not being able to use it.

Your data

How we look after your family’s data is in the privacy policy. You can delete your account or the whole family in the app any time.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we’ll say so in the app first. If you don’t agree, you can stop using ikhaya and delete your data.

The law

These terms follow the law of South Africa. Questions to help@myikhaya.co.za.
